Privacy Policy

Nostalgia ("we," "us," or "the app") is built so that your memories stay yours. This policy explains what the app accesses, how it's used, and what is — and isn't — shared. It applies to the Nostalgia iOS app and this website.
Photos stay on your device
Nostalgia reads your photo library only to find "on this day" memories and build mini-movies. Clustering, place lookups, and movie rendering all happen on your device. Your full photo library is never uploaded to our servers.
What gets shared, and only with your choice
- Shared movies. When you share a memory with a friend, the rendered movie for that one memory is synced through Apple's iCloud/CloudKit to the people you choose. You control who receives it.
- Contacts. If you link a face to a contact or invite someone, the app accesses Contacts to do so, at your request.
- Friend connections. To play the same memory on two phones and show "watching with," we store the minimal account and friendship data needed for that sync.
Text message (SMS) invitations
When you invite a friend who isn't on Nostalgia yet, Nostalgia may send them an invitation by text message (SMS) using the mobile number you provide for that person.
- We do not share your mobile information. Mobile phone numbers collected to send invitations are not shared, sold, or rented to any third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. They are used only to deliver the invitation you requested.
- Message frequency. Message frequency varies and depends on how many invitations you choose to send; invitation messages are only sent at your request.
- Message and data rates may apply. Standard message and data rates from the recipient's mobile carrier may apply to invitation texts.
- Opting out. Recipients can reply STOP to opt out of further messages, or HELP for help.
Information we process
- Photos and their metadata (dates, places, face tags) — processed on-device to build memories.
- Memories and movies you explicitly choose to share with friends.
- Basic account and device identifiers needed for sync and notifications.
- Diagnostic and crash data to keep the app working.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use your photos to train models or for advertising.
- We do not upload your photo library or contact list to our servers.
Permissions
Nostalgia asks for access to Photos, Contacts, and notifications. Each is optional and used only for the feature it powers. You can change or revoke any of these at any time in the iOS Settings app.
Data retention & deletion
Memories live on your device. Shared movies are retained in iCloud only as long as needed for the people you shared with. You can delete a memory in the app, and you can request deletion of any account and sync data associated with you by emailing us.
Children
Nostalgia is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
